Kernow Young Carers

Bringing Hope, Giving Happiness, Creating Memories

Are you a
Young Carer?

A young carer is a child or young person (under 18) who provides care and support for a family member who may be affected by ill health, a disability, mental ill health or substance misuse.

KYC will visit your family & offer support to help make the caring role a more positive experience.

Action for Children & Kernow Young Carers

Action for Children supports and speaks out for the UK’s most vulnerable and neglected children and young people, for as long as it takes to make a difference in their lives.

We work with over 50000 children young people and their families, running over 480 projects across the UK.

We are a children’s charity that tackles problems such as neglect and child abuse, as well as running projects that are aimed at making children’s lives better.

As well as doing these things, we also carry out research and use the information that is found to lobby the government to make sure vulnerable children have the issues they face tackled by politicians.

We have a vision and values that are reflected in all our work.

Our vision

Our vision is a world where all children and young people have a sense of belonging and are loved and valued.

A world where they can break through injustice, deprivation and inequality to fulfil their potential, shape their own destiny and experience the joy of life.

Our values

Passion – we are driven by our desire to help children and young people overcome injustice and disadvantage

Equality – we believe all children and young people have equal worth and equal rights

Hope – we believe in a child or young person’s potential, no matter what they have experienced or what they have done

In Cornwall, Action for Children run 4 projects of which Kernow Young Carers is one. We have managers and teams who know Cornwall well and understand the issues faced by children young people and families when living in a large rural area and when trying to get help and support can seem to be so far away.

We aim to develop services locally, making the best use of the resources we have and using these resources creatively whilst keeping the voice of the child at the centre of our decision making. We ask you what you think of our services and we use that feedback when we are planning new services.

We involve you in planning our services, interviewing new staff and designing our website!
