Kernow Young Carers

Bringing Hope, Giving Happiness, Creating Memories

Are you a
Young Carer?

A young carer is a child or young person (under 18) who provides care and support for a family member who may be affected by ill health, a disability, mental ill health or substance misuse.

KYC will visit your family & offer support to help make the caring role a more positive experience.

Action for Children & Kernow Young & Young Adults Carers

Action for Children supports and speaks out for the UK’s most vulnerable and neglected children and young people, for as long as it takes to make a difference in their lives.

We work with over 300,000 children young people and their families, delivering 552 services across the UK.  We are a children’s charity that tackles problems such as neglect and child abuse, as well as running services that are aimed at making children’s lives better.

As well as doing these things, we also carry out research and use the information that is found to lobby the government to make sure vulnerable children have the issues they face tackled by politicians.

How Action for Children works: by doing what’s right, doing what’s needed, and doing what works for children.

Our ambition: Any child who needs help gets help.

Our values: We’re straightforward, honest and analytical.  We partner, we collaborate and we share. We value evidence and expertise.  We find strengths, we build on positives.  We don’t judge, we don’t belittle, we get on with it.  We think hard, then do, what’s right for children.

In Cornwall, Action for Children run 3 services of which Kernow Young & Young Adults Carers is one. We have managers and teams who know Cornwall well and understand the issues faced by children young people and families when living in a large rural area and when trying to get help and support can seem to be so far away.

We aim to develop services locally, making the best use of the resources we have and using these resources creatively whilst keeping the voice of the child at the centre of our decision making. We ask you what you think of our services and we use that feedback when we are planning new services.

We involve you in planning our services, interviewing new staff and designing our website!
